Hello to our Chinese World of Warcraft community 👋
I hope you have been enjoying exploring the Dragon Isles with your friends. After my last message, many of you have asked for more details around what we are working on to bring World of Warcraft back to you after January 23 and how your characters, progress, and gear will be with you for your future adventures in Azeroth.Â
We are in the process of speaking to potential new publishing partners in China — this will continue until we find an appropriate solution. In the meantime, we know how important your progress in WoW is to you, so we are also happy to let you all know that the World of Warcraft team is working on functionality that will allow you to archive your character on your own personal devices prior to our services shutting down on January 23. This will include your gear as well as all progress you have made in your time in Azeroth.Â
I want to reiterate that this is in addition to the archive that EaseNet announced — EaseNet post from Nov 17 — and we expect any transition process to a new partner in China will be smooth. But this way, you also will be in possession of your own history. We are working with EaseNet on finalizing the plan and will be back with more details in January around how you can save your progress. We know you will have a lot of questions about this process and when you will be able to return to Azeroth: stay tuned, we will have more updates for you.

John Hight serves as the General Manager of Warcraft, where he oversees all development and commercial activities for the Warcraft franchise, which includes World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and Warcraft Arclight Rumble games and media. Prior, he directed development efforts for multiple World of Warcraft expansions, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, and Diablo III on console. Prior to joining Blizzard, he worked on over 40 games on various platforms, including Command & Conquer and Neverwinter Nights. While at Sony Computer Entertainment of America, John was instrumental in the development of the PlayStation Network and many critically-acclaimed titles, including flOw, flower, and God of War 3.
